Stock Market R&D Genius!
Old timers of the stock market knew the parents as well as youngsters have come to know the child! Sandoz and Ciba dotted the greater part of the 20th century with regular inventions which dazzled the worlds of industry and medicine. These Swiss companies, nestled in the picturesque and orderly town of Basel, or Basle, started their lives making Dyes and Chemicals. Pharmaceuticals and Agrochemicals, or pesticides followed later, and the margins and standards of pharmaceuticals meant that the business has hived off in recent stages.
However, more dramatic from a stock market point of view, was the merger of Sandoz and Ciba towards the end of the 20th century. The two Swiss corporate citizens had been such fierce rivals, that the stock market gasped when they joined hands. Apparently, the chemistry worked well, for the merged entity, imaginatively named Novartis, has been a stock market winner.
Novartis is a key member of the stock market communities of both New York and Zurich. A group company is listed on the Bombay Stock Market in India as well. Freed of the risks and low margins of other lines of parental businesses, Novartis has flowered in to a Research and Development titan in health care. No year has passed since its formation, in which the company has failed to make a major announcement of a new proprietary molecule receiving regulatory approvals in the United States, and in other leading markets.
Novartis buys and sells companies, and makes associations with research bodies with dizzying speed. The stock market has grown to trust the company management, and each of its major moves is met with enthusiastic and positive price movements. An interesting strategy of Novartis has been to develop high cash generation from a generics business under the name of Sandoz.
Novartis continues to launch new brands in assembly line fashion. The stock market knows that this company commands respect throughout the medical fraternity. It has a highly ethical profile. The company has strong shares in key geographic territories and in growing therapeutic segments. The stock market is delighted to know that 2006 sees further market share improvements for Novartis, with new molecules for Type II diabetes, hypertension and for cancer.
Here is a company for every stock market to treasure!
