The stock market is similar to a Presidential campaign. Both promise change. Any day can bring an amazing swing. Top candidates may wait in the shadows. Some of the people who make most noise lack substance. Ralph Nader is not likely to earn your vote. However, you will probably find it hard to disagree with his views. Extend this phenomenon to stock investing. Galvanize your portfolio. Move away from mutual funds. Look for stocks that lack rah-rah but not cash. How can you do this?
This article follows an earlier one this week entitled “Emergency Protection against the Gathering Inflation Storm”. One of our recommendations in that article was to invest in stocks of the Basic Materials Sector.
It is one of the first things they teach you in a Business School. Islamic banking excludes interest. However, the time value of money is a secular fact. Equity shares profit in place of usury. Miniature instruments inside a patient at a far corner of the theater mimic the surgeon with dramatically reduced scales. The company which makes such equipment has chosen the romantic brand name of da Vinci. However, this is hard-headed and profitable business. Intuitive Surgical Incorporated (NASDAQ: ISRG) has a market capitalization of more than $10 billion. This Sunnyvale, CA Corporation made an Initial Public Offer (IPO) in June 2000. Is it too late for investor to enter the robotic and remote surgery space?
Value has always been manna from heaven for stock investing. Value investing is especially popular today. Everyone searches NYSE listings for stocks with more inherent value than current prices suggest. It is easier to converse about value investing than to practice it. Seeing stock value that others cannot needs X-Ray like vision. How can you penetrate stock market barriers to see stocks in proper light? Here is a live example:
Some Asian stock investors have the stars on their side. You can see the bright gemstones on fingers of their hands. Astrology seems to work for them. Their economies have double-digit growth rates. New stock millionaires dot their ranks. Soothsayers are popular in NASDAQ circles as well. They depend on subject experts rather than on the planets.
